It’s a New Year! Time for a fresh start! Start on some good pet-care habits, that is. Here are ten good ideas for your pet’s list. Let’s start the countdown!

10. A Bright Smile
Time to make sure you are keeping tabs on your pet’s oral hygiene. That means daily brushing with a pet-safe toothpaste. Along with daily treatments, it’s good to go to the vet for a cleaning from time to time as well. If these tricks are no good with your pet, try out some dental treats and weekly fluoride.

Pet Tattoo Ban Becomes Reality

on 12/23/2014 - 12:25 am

This week, Andrew Mark Cuomo, New York’s governor, signed off on a law to ban pet tattoos and piercings in the state. The bill, which has been around for three years, states that people who disobey the law will potentially spend fifteen days in prison and pay a $250 fine.

The spark for the law, besides a recent trend in this type of activity, was a woman who pierced and tattooed kittens and sold them as “gothic kittens”. A more widely known catalyst to this movement is a tattoo artist named Mistah Metro, who tattooed his dog while she was sedated for a spleen surgery. He posted a photo to his Instagram profile and the internet went wild. People were outraged about ...

Saving New York's Hardest Working horses!

on 12/18/2014 - 12:11 am

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has taken a huge step in the way of animal rights by promising to introduce a bill that will effectively ban horse-drawn carriages from the city by 2016. Animal rights activists are applauding de Blasio’s decision, with animal advocacy organization executive director Allie Feldman saying, “There is no reason that we should continue to perpetuate this unsafe, outdated, inhumane industry when we've got many different alternatives.”

Although the Mayor is planning to offer licenses to operate new green taxis as well as job training to those put out of work by the ban, the carriage drivers are insistent that they treat their horses wit ...

Our Kobe

on 12/02/2014 - 04:30 am

In 2008, my husband and I moved into our very first home and we made one of the best decisions to complete our new home-adopting a dog. A friend of mine owned a chihuahua mixed and also had a pitbull who accidentally mated and voila! Kobe was born and we knew he was for us!

He is a very unlikely mix, and the most beautiful dog in our eyes. People are amazed at how he looks because he isn't as large as a typical pitbull. He has short stalky legs, broad chest and shoulders, a broad boxy head- all the features you would typically see on a pitbull, except a miniature version. Kobe is the center of attention at every event he attends, turns heads at every neighborhood block, stops everyo ...

Natura Pet Products discovered a problem during an ingredient inventory discrepancy investigation. They issued a recall of five lots of food they find to be nutritionally insufficient. There was a formulation error that caused a surplus of minerals and a shortage of vitamins.
The extra minerals are not dangerous, but a lack of vitamins can cause health problems that manifest as appetite loss, lethargy, vomiting and weight loss. So far no health problems have been reported as a direct result of the formula error.
Five lots were affected and distributed at stores in CA, MI, GA, MN, PA, TX, VT, NV, Canada, and the Internet. The five lots are:

on 11/20/2014 - 10:15 pm

Sam Simon created one of the most popular television shows of all time. He is the co-creator and executive producer of The Simpsons. He recently found out he had terminal colon cancer. Simon, a positive and giving person, chose to make the most out of his battle, a battle that he says is, “the most amazing experience of my life”.

Simon never married or had children but felt a deep connection to the animal kingdom. He joined PETA and also created his own organization, the Sam Simon Foundation, which trains hearing dogs to aid the deaf. He has always cared for and helped animals, but his current situation has been a huge booster to his already enormously generous spirit.

Her owner, Brian, battles with panic disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, and loved Emily for all the comfort and companionship she provided.
