Trigger the Hero Cat

on 01/28/2014 - 09:03 pm

Erna Pratt, a 72-year-old woman in Missouri was in the kitchen one day and began to suffer a stroke. Her voice was too faint to wake her daughter up and ask for help. She had no one to turn to but her loyal Russian-Blue mixed breed cat, Trigger. She looked to Trigger and asked the cat to go to the next room and wake up Mary. Trigger did so, and successfully woke Mary in time for Mary to call 911. An ambulance came to the rescue and took Erna to Mercy Springfield Hospital, where doctors used the drug tPA to save her life. Trigger made Erna’s recovery possible and the Pratt’s couldn’t be more grateful.

Keep Your Dog Away From Your Bong

on 01/28/2014 - 07:04 am

There has been a recent buzz about the number of dogs poisoned by marijuana. Dogs have ingested it via bong water, edibles, and poorly hidden stashes. The number of cases in 2013 was 320, up almost fifty percent since 2009. This number is small in comparison to cases of chocolate or medication poisoning, but still alarming enough to cause to need for increased awareness.
Humans use marijuana to relax, but that’s not really the effect it has on dogs. Some dogs become sedate, but many become very aggressive and distressed. Their heart rates go through the roof, they get disoriented, and they become incontinent, losing control of themselves.
Since the legalization of m ...

This Winter was Rough for a Pooch Named Hooch

on 01/14/2014 - 08:03 pm

New Year’s Eve was wonderful night of celebration, but a Rottweiler named Hooch got a little caught up in the excitement and ran off into the Wisconsin winter, much to the dismay of his loving owner, Joe Bellehumeur. Hooch struggled in brutal winter conditions difficult for any creature to survive.  Luckily, some city workers were checking the water system for damage and found poor Hooch, whom they recognized from the fliers and social media posts from Bellehumeur. They rescued him and called up his owner. The two had a beautiful reunion. Hooch is still recovering from his freezing cold journey, but he’ll be just fine thanks to the warmth of his owner and the city that resc ...

Be Careful When You Buy Fur!

on 01/09/2014 - 08:11 pm

Animal Rights activists are buzzing in Germany over a recent cat fur scandal discovered in German stores, the biggest shock coming from pharmacy chain Muller.  The issue discovered was that German stores were selling hats, pom poms, and other fur products found to be made of cat fur. The items have been removed from the shelves after animal rights group Animals’ Liberty reported the problem.
Fur importation in Europe has been illegal since 2009, and it’s likely this fur all came from China. Companies in other places, some in America, have fallen victim to accidental cat and dog fur purchases from Chinese companies that tell them they are purchasing fox fur or faux f ...

Washington Dog-Owner Commits a Horrible Crime

on 01/05/2014 - 01:27 am

This is the kind of pet news no one enjoys reporting.  Last August, a man named Christopher W. Dillingham took his “preparation for the reaping” too far when he attached homemade explosives around the neck of his Yellow Lab, Cabela. He fed Cabela treats to keep him from wriggling out of the explosives he’d made from powder he’d obtained from illegal fireworks. He then hid behind a wall and detonated these explosives. The result was what you’d imagine.
The police received 911 calls from all over the neighborhood and arrived at Dillingham’s house as he was throwing furniture. He believed the furniture as well as Cabela were possessed by the dev ...

The Golden Life of Retriever Ray Charles Golden Retriever

on 01/03/2014 - 01:29 am

Less than a year ago Golden Retriever pup Ray Charles was born blind, with a lac of connection between his brain and eyes. His breeder woefully considered putting the puppy down until Andrew Fales swooped in to adopt Ray into his three-retriever family. Fales named the pup after the iconic musician, and so far the pup has lived up to his name. Fales posted pictures of Ray Charles on his Facebook, wearing sunglasses, hats, pajamas, and other cool guy accessories. The captions were positive notes for others who live with disabilities. To Fales’ surprise, the pup received over 64,000 likes on Facebook. It was never the plan to make this inspirational little buddy famous, but he just could ...
