on 09/24/2014 - 08:59 pm

In honor of Senior Pet Wellness month, we’d like to take some time to educate you on taking care of older pets. As we get older, we often do everything in our power to ease/prevent/100% deny the aging process. We eat better, exercise, and tell everyone we meet that we’re 29 in hopes that it somehow becomes true. We take extra care of ourselves during this time, and the same treatment should be given to our aging pets. Follow these sage words of pet wisdom to extend and nurture your pet’s long happy life.
Vet visits are crucial, especially for older pets whose bodies attract many of the same ailments ours do in age. This includes cancer, heart disease, bone and join ...

on 09/15/2014 - 10:13 pm

Paris Hilton is one of the most famous celebrities in our culture, like it or not, and she makes sure her pets are famous, too. Who could forget her Chihuahua Tinker Bell? No one rocked a purse quite like Tinkerbell. Thirty-three-year-old socialite Paris owned a total of thirty-five pets last year, and now she is delighted to present her newest pup to the world.
Not only did Paris go for a cute little puppy, she bought the CUTEST, TINIEST PUPPY IN THE WORLD. I’m serious. Her new puppy, Mr. Amazing, is an extremely small white teacup Pomeranian; the world’s smallest if you ask TMZ. He is four months old and fits in the palm of a hand. Apparently, he is about the length of ...

Waving Goodbye to the World’s Tallest Dog

on 09/13/2014 - 12:58 am

On this blog we’ve said goodbye to a lot of amazing pets from Kye the courageous police dog, to Romeo the beautiful pup with cancer, to Colonel Meow, the Guiness Book of World Records winner for Longest Fur on a Cat. Today we sadly come together to say goodbye to another record winner, Zeus the Great Dane.
44-inch Zeus held the Guinness World Records for tallest living dog, a title he held for two glorious years, and tallest dog ever. On his hind legs, he stood over 7-feet high, taller than most people! My friend is a six-foot four-inch man who would have looked little next to Zeus!
With all that size Zeus also brought a lot of personality. His ow ...

A New Line of Fur Purses You Won't Believe!

on 09/11/2014 - 10:38 pm

Get ready for this one. Doris Carvalho is releasing a new line of purses called “Fur You”. The inspiration for the name? You guessed it—fur. Not just any fur, but the fur of your dog. She’s collected discarded hair donated by dog groomers and uses it to create the purses. The hair is sterilized, made into thread, and woven into the purses.  There is a kick-starter website where people can learn more and donate. The purses currently cost $1000, but the price will lower as more a more mass level of production becomes available. It’s certainly an interesting eco-friendly way to express one’s self. Will you get one?

Should I Kick My Pet Out of Bed?

on 09/10/2014 - 03:03 am

Lots of people sleep with pets in their bed. Lots. If you’re not allergic, have no asthma or other breathing problems, and are sleeping thoroughly through the night, this is great and totally ok. Some people, including some insomniacs, find it much easier to sleep with a pet than without. Some find bed a useful training tool. However, there are some downsides to furry bedfellows you may need to consider.
If you have any breathing problems or any kind of allergies, a pet in your bed can be really detrimental to your health. Even if your allergies aren’t flaring up and intensifying overnight, you’re risking the spread of infectious diseases, parasites, and anything e ...

The Dog Who Loved Socks

on 09/05/2014 - 09:50 pm

A family and vet have solved the mystery of what happened to the missing halves of all their pairs of socks. Doctors at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland removed forty-three and a half socks from a very sick Great Dane. After the two-hour procedure, the vets reported that this was the strangest set of objects they had ever removed from any animal. This incident helped DoveLewis place third in the very real “They ate WHAT?” contest, which provided them with $500 to be donated to animals with low-income owners.  Second prize went to a German Pointer who ate a shish kebab and first went to a frog that ate 30 small rocks from its cage.  Does this make you feel ...

Let’s Learn 10 Lessons from Our Dogs Today

on 09/04/2014 - 07:03 pm

Dogs may be slow, drooly, and covered in dirty fur, but they’ve got some things totally figured out.
1.Don’t worry about who’s watching.Have you even once seen your dog stop playing, licking, and jumping because he was self-conscious about you watching? No! Dance! Jump! Shout! The people around you will love or hate it, but that’s on them.
2.Forgive quickly.Your dog doesn’t dodge your calls, talk behind your back, and give you angry eyes just because you didn’t give him a treat yesterday. Think about how much a disagreement really matters. Has this person wronged you so horribly that you have to create an angry place inside yourself that ...

Last Sunday in Oklahoma City K-9 Officer Kye was killed in action while he and his partner, Sergeant Ryan Stark, chased down an armed criminal. Following a car chase, the suspect got out of his car and ran, but Kye caught him. The suspect, who was armed with a knife, responded by stabbing the dog repeatedly before Sergeant Stark caught up. Over a thousand people, including fellow K-9s and their partners, attended Kye’s funeral.  The Belgian German Shepherd’s coffin was covered in an American Flag and he was honored with a 21-gun salute. Kye gave his life to save a fellow officer, and no one in the ...
