Beware of Leptospirosis Outbreaks in Pima County

Do you have pets and live in Pima County? Officials are a little concerned because another dog has tested positive for the bacterial disease, leptospirosis. This is a verified case by the health department of Pima County. A local vet notified the health department of this devastating news.
The dog has recovered from the leptospirosis,but  no vaccination was completed prior to the dog picking up the bacteria from who knows where. There have been outbreaks in other cities that have affected anywhere from 50-70 dogs at a time. Prevention as a community is important. Animal Center Experiences Overcrowding & Offers Free Pet Adoptions.

It is always super sad to hear about an overcrowded animal center. However, one animal center is doing something about the overcrowding and we love it. Clay County Animal Care and Center is having a HUGE adoption event this weekend. Because their center is crowded, they need to get some animals to a new home ASAP.

Stray Dog Adopts Adventure Racing Team as His New Family

A small group of Swedish Adventure Racers got a surprising new team member recently when a local stray dog adopted them in the middle of a competition in Ecuador. The dog, who would soon earn the name King Arthur for his decidedly regal aura, sauntered through the crowd in search of food before coming across Team Peak Performance having a break. Initially apprehensive to Arthur’s dirty and sickly appearance, the generous team ended up giving old Arthur some meatballs from their pouches, and the rest is history.

BREAKING NEWS: Pet Food Recall on Popular Brand

Leading pet food brand, Blue Buffalo, announced today that a voluntary recall was in effect for various products already on the shelves of many stores around the world. Recalled labels include 12.5 ounce cans of Homestyle Recipe Healthy Weight and Chicken Dinner with Garden Vegetables. Brand spokesmen say that the recall is due to a potential contamination of aluminum metal found recently in routine testing. 
 
The side effects of ingesting aluminum metal are dangerous and may include discomfort, choking, and in some cases death. As a precautionary measure, Blue Buffalo has tested other products in their inventory for similar contaminations. So far, no other items are included in ...

Oats, Peanut Butter & Banana Cookies(Makes 16 cookies) 2 ½ cups instant oats2 cup whole wheat flour (keep on the side to use as needed)1 Egg½ cup chicken broth2 Tablespoons creamy Peanut Butter1 ripe banana Place egg and chicken broth in a bowl and mix well with a hand held mixer. MARS PETCARE RECALLS CESAR CLASSICS FILET MIGNON FLAVORED DOG FOOD

Mars Petcare announced on October 11th, that they are recalling CESAR Classics Filet Mignon Flavored wet dog food, because they have found pieces of plastic they think got inside the food during the production phase.
The dog parents who made the discovery and reported it to the company,  did not report any injuries or sickness for their dogs due to the consumption of the food.The company is working with their distributors to remove these products from their retailers.  But are also indicating that all their other products are safe for consumption.

How many times have we seen small children playing with dogs and eating the same things that the dogs are eating? Wouldn’t you like to at least know that what your dog is eating will not cause any harm to your child in case it is shared?

Oats and Parmesan Cheese Cookies
(makes one dozen bone-shaped cookies)
2 ½ cups  instant oats

Vet Student Gives Sheltie A Second Chance

An adorable Sheltie from Portland was given a second chance at life thanks to a vet student who made a life-saving discovery a minute before the pup was to be euthanized.  Ollie, a 10-year-old Sheltie, Portland, Oregon, became almost completely paralyzed after returning home from a camping trip. Ollie would not eat and appeared increasingly lethargic.
Ollie’s family took him to their regular veterinarian who conducted tests, including blood work and X-rays. Unfortunately, their vet could not figure out what was wrong with Ollie. Ollie’s family made the hard decision to put Ollie down two weeks after returning home from their camping trip.

Groomer arrested after dog dies in his care

A groomer from San Mateo was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after one of his clients, a 1-year-old Dachshund named Henry, died during under his watch.The San Mateo police responded to a report that the young dog died about 5:15 p.m. on Sunday at a PetSmart store.Officers spoke with Henry's owner, a 47-year-old man from San Mateo, who said he brought Henry to the pet supply store to be groomed.
 
The groomer, 38-year-old Juan Zarate of San Francisco, came out from the grooming office and said that Henry was having a medical emergency three minutes into his appointment. Henry was bleeding from the mouth and struggled to breathe on his own.
