Groomer arrested after dog dies in his care

A groomer from San Mateo was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after one of his clients, a 1-year-old Dachshund named Henry, died during under his watch.The San Mateo police responded to a report that the young dog died about 5:15 p.m. on Sunday at a PetSmart store.Officers spoke with Henry's owner, a 47-year-old man from San Mateo, who said he brought Henry to the pet supply store to be groomed.
The groomer, 38-year-old Juan Zarate of San Francisco, came out from the grooming office and said that Henry was having a medical emergency three minutes into his appointment. Henry was bleeding from the mouth and struggled to breathe on his own.

Sammie and Simon: Forging an Unbreakable Bond

A border collie named Simon and his new friend Sammie have gone viral after a photo of the two of them was posted online last week.
In the photo, Simon, a border collie suffering from mange and neglect, appears to be reaching out to Sammie, a 3-month old boxer, in his time of need. Sammie suffered two broken legs, and a severe head injury after he had been shot, dragged behind a car and spray painted, according to a post on a fundraising page set up by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.
Both Simon and Sammie had been abandoned and left for dead.
“Sammie accepted Simon’s soft touch and was grateful for the love and affection that Simon showed him,” the post stated.

The man who burnt his dog alive was sentenced to five years in prison for his crime, the maximum sentence in accordance with Virginia state law.
In November of 2015, 27-year-old Arthur M. Vieira of Virginia pleaded guilty to an act of animal cruelty. Vieira used the classified listings website, Craigslist, to purchase a dog named Lucky. Vieira said that Lucky had behavioral issues, claiming that she attacked him several times. Following one of the apparent attacks, Vieira said he punched Lucky in the nose. He thought the blow killed Lucky.

11 year old Breana Carsey has always wanted a horse. For years she has been asking her father for a broodmare, a mommy horse. Well, one day, she finally got one.
"She has me wrapped around her finger, " laughs her father Brian, joking about how she puppy-eyed him into buying her a horse.
She named him MJB Got Faith. An Ohio Standardbred born in the Spring of 2013. MJB after the initials of the kids in her family and Got Faith from the faith she had in him from the start.

Plump Pooch Flies First Class and Wows Passengers

Picture it. Flying first class, kicking back, enjoying your movie. You look over and you see a giant pooch sitting next to you in a comfy bed on wheels. You have just met Hank.
The 165 lb. Mastiff is a rescue dog, he has gained weight and cannot move too well because of a health ailment. Hence his cute cart. Hank was saved by Kari Whitman, an interior designer in Los Angeles.

The Battle for Best Costume at the Fifth Annual Barkfest

Dogs dressed in cute and creepy costumes alike came to the Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook in Centereach on Sunday for Barkfest 2015. Hundreds of dogs were dressed up this weekend to compete for best costume. The winners got their treats early this year and went home with large goody-bags filled with Milk-Bones.
The event was sponsored by Pet Supplies Plus, Little Shelter, National Mill Dog Rescue, and Save-a-Pet. Long Island radio station, Party 105, provided a live broadcast.

This Man in Texas Gives Abandoned Dogs the Ride of Their Lives

Eugene Bostick lives in Fort Worth, TX, where he and his brother have a horse barn that has become a popular spot for pet-owners to abandon their dogs. Bostick retired a while ago, and didn’t imagine that he’d become the dog hero he has.
When all these abandoned dogs began appearing on his doorstep, Bostick couldn’t find it in his heart to take them to the pound. Instead, he and his brother began feeding them and taking them to the vet. He has found homes for several of them, and others stick around the barn and get the most delightful morning train rides.

It’s extremely important for women to look out for each other, and a female dog in Greece proved this in a way we never expected. 
College student Georgia Bradley was spending time away from Plymouth University and enjoying a quiet beach in Crete, Greece. Two men approached her, wanting to know if she’d join them for a drink. Georgia said no. Instead of accepting her declined invitation, one of the men grabbed Georgia by the arm.

In Fort Worth, Texas, there lives the sweetest, strongest, most delightful half a bulldog puppy you will ever meet. His name is Bonsai, and he was born in Arkansas with a host of deformities before he was rescued by the private rescue home Friends of Emma. 
Bonsai was born with sacrocaudal dysgenesis and caudal regression, which led him to have no pelvis, half a spine and tiny hind legs that were contracted, promising to get worse. Yang Xiaoyunn, a retired schoolteacher from Tianjin, China, has been an animal activist and advocate since 1995 when she pulled an abandoned kitten out of a river.
